At the beginning of the 3rd millennium B.C. the Sumerian settle in Mesopotamia, and this arrival is a synonym of progress in all artistic domains. This civilization will develop a “expressionistic” way of rendering the figures: this is obvious in the attitude of the lion. This motive could also be a symbolist way to express the law’s power on the chaos.
